This is very important, timely and strategically relevant to LIS students (and all future human workers who will be in service to technology). Njoi

It is wonderful to have a positive outlook on our futures and I hope he is right. I worry that we may not adapt to droids driving our buses and trucks and the effects of this progress will be turbulent. Similar to the protests and riots over the Industrial Revolution but at a larger scale.

** I am marking ted.com as a favorite though…very intriguing speaker and I want to hear more.

Yes this was an interesting talk. In a way Andrew McAfee could be right that people will find other things to do for work, this has happened before.

A bit off the point of the video, but on the subject of embedding videos in this blog: I tried several times to embed the earlier-posted “Helvetica” documentary using the tools in my dashboard and failed. The docu ended up being posted with a link. Is this by design that I (and other students) can’t post vids or have I failed to press the right buttons? Are some videos not embeddable?

Actually you all have the same permissions as I have for publication, but there are some tricks to embedding videos that are part WordPress and part the source. For example, the TED talks have a built in bit that is just for WP . I suggest hitting the help page for WP to see where you are getting stuck. One neat short cut is that any You Tube link on a line all by itself is automatically embedded. You can look at the code of any of my posts as well.
