Please help.

September 26, 2012

I don’t understand what I did wrong. Before I continue with the rest of the assignment, I wanted to make sure I did the first part of your lecture correct.

I organized all my files.

I changed index.html to index.shtml & assignments.html to assignments.shtml. I uploaded them. I copy and pasted my banner, footer, and navigation into inc files and uploaded those. I also made sure to change the destination in my inc files to reflect the new locations of files due to my organizing. But I am still getting an error message on my home page where the and the are supposed to be. The footer doesn’t even show up.

my file contents:

<p><a href=”/dchristiansen/cooks/”>Home</a></p>
<p><a href=”/dchristiansen/cooks/assignments/assignments.shtml”>Assignments</a></p>

my contents:

<p><a href=””>Contact the Webmaster</a></p>

my contents:

<a href=”/dchristiansen/cooks/” ><img src=”/dchristiansen/cooks/images/banner.gif” alt=”libr 240 fall 2012″/></a>

What am I missing? Why doesn’t it look like

your SSI paths are missing the “/” at the beginning which means you are telling the server to look for a ‘dchristiansen’ folder in your student folder.

Just a reminder to every one out there: “don’t stay stuck for more than 1 hour” is the rule because after that much time your own powers of perception work against you and not for you.

It took me 7 hours to do this weeks homework and I still have 1 error. Its driving me nuts.
I had the same issue you had on my pages. No matter how many times you look at its so hard to find the reason behind it.

    Hi Derek,
A few questions, sorry if these are obvious, but I didn’t understand…
    1) It’s not clear to me, on the Wk6 page, why did you include the photo of your cat? The instructions call for the staggered colored squares and the table, but I didn’t understand why you had the photo too.
    2) So, we also need to make all of our previous week files (WK1, WK2) into .shtml files, changing the banner, navigation, and footer sections, correct?
    3) But then, using SSI and with renamed .shtml files, the old wk2_ourname.html pages will no longer work, unless we also keep a copy of the original “assignments.html”? (Do we need to convert the old “wk2_ourname.html” files?)
    Thanks, Jordon

      1) whim –no need for cat; 2) all pages need to be in *shtml and use SSI for header, nav and footer regions; 3) What you do with the old ones is your business, Rod put his in a folder called ‘old’ to avoid confusion going forward –so no need to convert the old ones as they are beta versions for you to gain perspective on your work progress.
