Just checking in…

August 24, 2012

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening! I am Deanna Thompson and I am happy to say that I am 2/3 through the MLIS program and I expect to finish in either May or August of 2013. To be truthful, I am not sure who will do more celebrating, me or my long-suffering husband who has ever-so patiently tolerated my late night study habits and inability to commit to any family functions.

I would like to claim that I have great experience with programming and web development but that would be a lie. I do, however, have tremendous experience calling the webmaster at work and telling him in very inefficient and incomprehensible terms what I need fixed or updated on our web pages. (Hopefully, if nothing else, after this class I can communicate with him in a manner that will lessen the influx of gray hairs I have caused him!)

Besides my tendency to attempt to infuse humor in my writing (and often failing), an unusual factoid about me is that I am a diehard hockey fan, specifically the SJ Sharks. I will plan homework assignments around games if at all possible. When we decided to cancel our cable TV in lieu of satellite, my first two questions to the companies were: “Do you include the NHL channel?” and “Can I still get Comcast Sports?” (Comcast Sports shows nearly all Sharks games live and then I catch re-broadcasts on NHL.) If there was an anti-hockey pill, I have no doubt my husband would be sneaking it into my morning coffee.

On that note, I wish everyone a great semester!

Hockey? Whodathunkit! Welcome aboard and try not to try for too many stick saves in my class!

Deanna if your husband ever gets an anti-hockey pill for you please have him send one my way. My husband is a die hard Sharks fan. We also plan our tv provider around hockey, which is tricky living in Roseville; games often get preempted for Kings basketball. Here is hoping for no lock out this season! Good luck with your semester.

Sharks eh? I’m a fairly rabid Flames fan (hey I’m Canadian, it’s almost mandatory to be a hockey fan) so keep your stick on the ice!
