Personal Information and Marketing

May 1, 2012

As I am reading Daniel J. Solove’s article on privacy, I kept thinking about a story I had hear about personal information used in marketing. It’s no secret that marketers are culling our information and using it in marketing, but what if a marketer informs those around us of information we’re not yet ready to share? Solove makes an interesting point about maintaining privacy in order to preserve personal power.

Such is an example of a man finding out that his daughter was pregnant through Target’s marketing to his family.

Solove is a great resource for debunking the common mythos of “only criminals with something to hide” are interested in privacy.
