Katie’s Project Idea

October 5, 2011

I would like to focus my final project on book mobiles. I have conducted a decent amount of research on this topic for another course and would like to discuss how libraries can create their own book mobile to better serve their rural patrons.

I’ll specify the content of the site once I do some more research!

Questions, comments, concerns definitely welcome!

What’s the bare minimum for a bookmobile? Could one operate out of the trunk of a car or do you need the resource density of a large bus? What is the population density appropriate for a bookmobile versus a small branch or outlet?

This is a good topic. Clean, simple and focused. Great.

From what I’ve gathered, the means of delivering resources can be a canned-ham trailer, old rickety bus or even a semi-truck!<—Utah uses a semi…here's the url to their site:

Still doing some research on the population density to quantify the use of a mobile library, but at least in Utah, the small branches partner up with the mobile library to serve their rural community members…real real rural community members! 🙂
