Final Project: Pathfinder on Innovative Technologies for all types of librarians

October 2, 2011

I love learning about new innovative technologies that increases information sharing. I feel the digital medium has to much more to offer. There are more means to share information than just Facebook, text messages and Wikipedia. I want to share some links that are just on top of my head.

My goal with this final project is to create a center hub for all types of librarians to gather and find online tools that librarians practitioners can incorporate into their daily professional lives. I feel people are afraid of the constant changes of the internet and what it can offer, most cases its intimidating. This site will focus as a professional center for understanding latest trends, tools and additional resources they can study and incorporate to better serve the information field.

I will break this down by having an introduction about innovative technologies as first stepping stone. Having several examples of tools and how it can be incorporated for librarians. Provide plenty of outside information since this is a pathfinder style website and like the video below show how simple tools can really open up more than one can imagine (gaming leads to curing cancer!). Lastly have user incorporate through forms suggestion, questions or follow up which will help grow the pathfinder.

The TED video best displays how interactive gaming can help contribute to society. Plus this video motivates me to one day make it to TED or at least attend them.

She’s a great speaker–very funny presentation–interesting, thought-provoking conclusions. I’m not a gamer and I’ve never enjoyed playing games much, but I like to think that some of my gamer friends might “save the world” someday. : )

A pathfinder for librarians’ tools is a good topic.
