week 4 grading

September 20, 2011

Now that everyone has “ugly” out of way I need to reiterate that the usability part of what we do is intrinsic to accessibility. To review, accessibility means those with unusual skill-sets are able to get at web content with the same ease as an able-bodied person. We will revisit this topic many times, but it’s important to state bluntly that flashing text, poor contrast between background and foreground, forced scrolling, and many other no-no techniques displayed in this week’s assignment are not OK is the real world. So just so we all “get it” for sure: week 4 is what NOT to do when designing your student site. Pay close attention this week to the cultural dimensions sites and the usability information from Krug.
