UTF-8 as Default Coding

September 15, 2011

As I was playing around with Notepad+ + I figured out how to set UTF-8 as the default coding for new documents.  What you need to do is to go to ‘Settings’ at the top and then click on ‘preferences’. In the preferences window click on the ‘new document/default directory’ tab. Under the ‘encoding’ heading click on the circle by UTF-8 and then click close. I included a picture for visual reference. Hope this helps!

    Hey, this is great! Thanks!

Has anybody noticed if sometimes when setting a document to UTF-8 and closing, the document says it is ANSI after reopening?

Thank you for this great tip–I have been doing all the adjusting manually…when I remember!
