Preservation is still a valid

March 24, 2011

I disagree that preservation is no longer a valid issue for LIS. I find that technology gives access to the original, but the originals must be preserved. I have no doubt that book vaults need to be preserved and the benefit of technology to scan and render a book in a format for mass consumption. Digital information can be deleted, and the internet can be turned off if someone was high motivated to accomplish that goal. A book is more durable than most technology. Drop a book and a computer from the top of a sky scrapper, and see which you can get information from faster the book or the busted computer. No using smart phone to access back up files on the web :/
