Information Access – Final Project

March 11, 2011
by

My primary interest is in the interfaces available to users when accessing information, in both web applications and standalone applications. Poorly designed and difficult to use websites and tools are prevalent in many fields, but it seems especially important that library science as a field should be leaders in these technologies. One of our primary goals is to provide access to information to those who desire and need it, and it follows that we should be providing the best accessibility in every way that we can. I would like to focus on design and user interaction in web and applications, how it is currently being used, and how they hope to improve it in the future.

Do you mean different browsers, or media (print versus mobile phone versus PC), or accessibility based on population (blind, deaf, cultural and language differences)?

I’m thinking mostly PC related, something like an OPAC probably. It would encompass both basic usability, and those factors which would be dependent on different population groups.
