Archivists meet technology

March 11, 2011

Since my main area of interest is archives, I want to explore how technology can make archives more usable.  Recent research has shown that by having finding aids, pathfinders, and even some content available online, more people are drawn to archives.  I’m very interested in how the use of Web 2.0 changes the way archives market themselves.

A  few others are also looking at doing your project on some aspect of archives, and I’d really like to hear what you think!

I imagine it’s very expensive and time-consuming to digitize archived materials, especially non-book or 3-D items. Are you planning on focusing on making the physical archive location more interesting and accessible to the public, or more in terms of being able to find something once you’re already there?

I like this very much because my experience with archives makes me want so much more; the interfaces are bad and confusing IMHO.

This sounds very interesting and something that there should be a great deal of information with which to inform your site, love this idea!
