T. Overduin’s Final Project topic

October 7, 2010

Hi all,

I’ve always been interested in the ways that technology is changing the world of the library.  This includes the digitization of many resources, the electronic catalogue, “library 2.0”, and the prospect of the death of the library in light of the internet.  My site would include information on how technology is both killing and revitalizing the American library.  It would also include resources on how to modernize your library.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

I find this very interesting and I was thinking about doing something similar. I am interning this semester for the Santa Cruz Public Library system. They are facing a bad budget situation and they have appointed a Task Force of community members, library staff, library board members, and one intern (me). This Task Force has been building several library service models one of which the system will use going forward. There has been a fair amount of research and discussion about the role of technology in the future of the library.

Great topic. There are probably some good on-topic YouTube videos that you could add. The NYPL did one last year that I remember was particularly good. I think it was called Library Lions.
