Study Abroad Course Site

October 5, 2010

For my final project, I would like to build a companion site for a college study abroad course in Germany. The idea is that the website will contain resources the students will need to review prior to their experience, as well as resources for their courses during the experience, and finally, the website will act as a way to connect students to parents and friends while they are away, which will also serve as a form of advertising for the program. Some potential elements of the site are as follows:

– Home Page: welcome and basics of the program
– Contact Us Page: form used to send a message regarding interest in the program, a question about the requirements, suggestions, etc.
– Itinerary Page: scheduling information (table) and links to information about the places to be visited
– Photo Gallery: place for students to post pictures of their experience to share with family and friends (slide show perhaps)
– About Page: describes the history of the program and the faculty/staff who run the program (staff bios/introduction video perhaps)
– Language Tools Page: links to German language learning tools
– Site Map: annotated site index
– Blog Page: if possible, I’d love to have an area that is the format of a blog, where, theoretically, students could post about their experiences
– FAQ Page: common questions and answers about the program
– Current Events: links to German/EU news

If anyone has any comments or suggestions, I’d love to hear them! Thanks! -Kimberly

I think it sounds like a great site, and very useful for those interested in studying abroad. My only concern is the lack of a LIS-angle, but if Derek’s okay with it I say go for it! It sounds like the perfect amount/variety of informational content for this project.

I’m hoping it will work because it’s a college course companion site (like a glorified pathfinder). We’ll see…

    Pathfinder is fine and dandy.
