My Second Life Experience

May 5, 2010

My first experience with Second Life occurred last semester and it was not great. When I first logged on, I was harassed by another avatar and didn’t understand the controls well enough to stop it. Due to this terrible first impression, I just managed to create hair and clothes on my avatar and left it at that. My return to Second Life this semester has been a bit more positive. I was grateful to have the ‘look’ of my avatar established and was able to focus on understanding the controls. Overall, Second Life is difficult to understand, unless one is willing to spend a good deal of time figuring out the controls. The tutorials are a great source to refer to, but the excessive dials and drop-down lists presented in Second Life can be overwhelming. On a positive note, I was able to make a bowl this time around! It may seem insignificant, but I’m so proud of my bowl!
