Spencer’s final project idea

March 13, 2010

Last semester, I took the Information Retrieval (IR) class. When I worked on the final paper, which was about multimedia information retrieval, I was fascinated by the complexity and the progress of the development of multimedia IR.

Most of our online or databases searches are text-based. We use text to search for pictures, music, or video clips. But what if we can use a picture and ask the database to look for similar ones? Or use a section of recorded live music to search for the CD-version of the same piece of music?

I would use this as the central topic of my final project, and things may develop in newer directions as time goes by.

sounds good and you might want to think about findability in terms of the dominant technology..flash
