Resources for YAs

March 12, 2010

I would like to attempt to execute an idea I had last semester in Services for Young Adults. My website would be an interactive tutorial on accessing the YA resources available for the host library. I would model it after Internet Alternate Reality Games (ARGs). Rather than simply lay out instructions, the tutorial would require steps be completed (i.e. resources accessed) before the next step even became clear. I choose this model based off of my own interest in games. I hope that the cumulative reward process would make the tutorial engaging, increasing the user’s enthusiasm at the same time as increasing their knowledge. The process also gives the user real hands-on experience, which I find so much more useful than reading a block of text.
